Students who have completed Year 12 and are considering pursuing foundation studies need not look further.
The University of the South Pacific’s (USP) Pacific Technical and Further Education (Pacific TAFE) provides a variety of Foundation and Preliminary subjects to choose from.
The College of Foundation Studies offers Preliminary Arts, Preliminary Business and Preliminary Science programmes alongside Foundation Arts, Foundation Business and Foundation Science programmes. These programmes provide the groundwork for students, preparing them for undergraduate studies.
The Foundation programmes are internationally recognised by Universities New Zealand.
Foundation Arts student, Awantika Ram who completed her programme in 2021 said choosing to undertake Foundation studies was one of the best decisions as it helped her transition into the Bachelor’s programme (Bachelor of Commerce – Majoring in Accounting and Economics).
“I successfully completed my Foundation studies with the help of friendly and supportive teaching staff,” she added.
Awantika mentioned that she found the fee of the programme reasonable and strongly recommended Foundation as the first step towards higher education.
Kenneth Law, who undertook Foundation Business, said it was a great experience that helped him become more self-sufficient.
He stated that Foundation studies better prepared him for undergraduate studies and allowed him to familiarise himself with the University environment.
Kenneth added that he undertook Foundation studies entirely online due to the COVID-19 restrictions last year.
“Without a doubt, it aided my understanding of the technological world,” he said.
Students who are yet to enrol in either the Preliminary or Foundation programmes are encouraged to do so. Applications close this Friday, 8 April 2022. Students will also be eligible for a 10 per cent discount for full fee payment by 8 April.
