Romanian Non-resident Ambassador visits USP

 

The non-resident Ambassador of Romania to Fiji, His Excellency Mr. Radu Gabriel Safta paid a courtesy visit to The University of the South Pacific (USP) on Wednesday, 14 September 2022.

The Ambassador was received at the University by Professor Sushil Kumar, Director Research; Profesor Surendra Prasad, Head of School of Agriculture, Geography, Ocean and Natural Science (SAGEONS) and Iresh Lal, Manager Development Cooperation, Research Office.

Potential collaborations in areas of mutual interests, specifically in the fields of climate change, oceans, physics, technology and agriculture were discussed., There was also talk of student exchange and staff mobility programmes between USP and universities in Romania.

Professor Kumar also pointed out that USP looked forward to Romania’s support in capitalising on available opportunities for cooperation. In response, H.E Mr Safta acknowledged the warm hospitality accorded to him upon his arrival, adding Romania values its relations with Fiji. He iterated that Romania seeks to explore avenues in education, particularly at the tertiary level and for increased engagements in areas such as agriculture, health, education, fisheries and climate change.

H.E Mr. Safta mentioned that Romania would be hosting a high-level event along the margins of the 77th Session United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) meeting in New York and hoped to engage closely with Pacific Leaders on regional issues.
