Transforming Health and Nutrition through the Global CFaH Project

The Global Community Food and Health (GCFAH) project is transforming health and nutrition initiatives in Fiji, the Philippines, Dominica, and St Lucia.

Researchers from The University of the South Pacific (USP) through the Pacific Centre and Environment and Sustainable Development (PaCE-SD) underwent a refresher training on data collection using the REDCAP tool on 27 February 2024.

This training is a crucial step in addressing the gaps identified by the project, as it aims to familiarise all data collectors with the REDCAP tool and survey questions before the actual feasibility and baseline data collection, while also enhancing their capacity in research methodologies.

The project goal is to improve nutrition and food security, focusing on various aspects including population diet, nutritional status, food sources, community food production, diets, and socio-cultural and economic factors.

Funded by the National Institute for Health Research, United Kingdom, the Global CFaH project has partnered with USP, PaCE-SD, and FRIEND, all based in Fiji.

This collaborative effort serves as a beacon of hope, aiming to combat the challenges posed by non-communicable diseases (NCDs) through innovative research and community engagement.

In addition to the training, the project is scheduled to conduct a pilot study on the 29th of this month. This study aims to test the tools and assess the effectiveness of the survey questionnaire, providing valuable insights for refining before the scheduled baseline data collection next month.

Together, USP, through the Global CFaH project, is sowing the seeds of change in the Pacific, fostering a future where health and nutrition are top priorities. It’s more than just a project; it’s a movement toward a better tomorrow where community health and well-being come first.

The Global CFaH project is a four-year initiative funded by the National Institute for Health Research, UK, with USP, PaCE-SD, and FRIEND as partners based in Fiji.
