The University of the South Pacific (USP) 2023 Enrolment Fair continues attracting more crowds, with over 200 students in attendance who are taking advantage of the services offered over the past three days.
Amongst the hundreds of students who turned up at USP, Laucala Campus was Sereana Salaiwalu who was born and raised in the maritime zone with a very minimal travel record to Suva or Gau Island, in the Lomaiviti province.
She was pleased with the efficient and effective services offered by the USP Student Administrative Services team and stated the fair was an opportunity for students to engage with experienced staff and to get a glimpse of university life, particularly for first-year students.
Ms Salaiwalu passed her Year 13 Examination last year and was over the moon after receiving her offer letter last week which confirmed her admission into USP’s Bachelor of Education (Primary) programme.
The Nukuloa, Gau lass was accompanied by her father during the enrolment fair and she will be the first generation from her family to attend USP.
“During my primary school days, I used to hear about USP in Suva. My Mum told me that if I want to join the University, I better study hard and achieve the required grades. From that time onwards, I never looked back, and my goal was to successfully complete my Year 13 examination and join USP. I am glad that I finally did,” she said.
As Ms Salaiwalu entered the University premises, she was astounded to see students from all walks of life, especially regional students convening at the Fair hinting at the University’s multicultural makeup.
“Even though I came from the island, I told myself that I need to come out of my comfort zone when joining this regional University. I am proud to join an institution that accommodates students from the region and international countries as well,” she added.
Meanwhile, the Fair is also an opportunity for students to learn more about the different services the University offers, flexible fee payment options and the various scholarships available.
The weeklong enrolment fair ends this Saturday.
