The University of the South Pacific School of Pacific Arts, Communication and Education (SPACE) will be offering a new programme, Bachelor of Communication and Media from Semester 2, 2021.
The University is already accepting applications from students who wish to study BA in Communication and Media in Semester 2 and will give potential students something exciting to look forward to for the coming semester.
The BA in Communication and Media is a prescribed programme of 24 courses. Students can undertake the programme from any campus across the region.
Senior Lecturer in Linguistics, Dr Fiona Willans, said the new programme is designed specifically to prepare students for a wide range of communication and media roles.
“A qualification in Communication and Media from the University will equip a graduate with skills and knowledge that will prepare them to be successful working in different industries in the fields of Communications, Marketing, Media and Public Relations,” she said.
“Students will gain both practical training and theoretical insights into the way communication works, through courses that are designed with the Pacific context at the forefront, and therefore grounded in principles of multilingualism, inclusion and ethical practice.”
The BA Communication and Media programme includes a work placement in the final year that will allow students to get hands-on experience in a relevant organisation.
The programme also enables students to tailor their specialist subject of between four and six courses, depending on the sectors they want to target, or if they wish to build generic skills that will prepare them for different roles.
For postgraduate options, students can pursue postgraduate diplomas in Linguistics, Development Studies, Governance, Diplomacy and International Affairs, Gender Studies, and selected programmes from the School of Business and Management.
Enrolment for the programme has begun, and the University looks forward to welcoming potential students for its first Communication and Media programme intake for Semester 2.
