USP Now Accepting Applications for the University Bursary Scheme and Scholarships from Interested Students

The University of the South Pacific is now accepting applications from students interested in applying for the University Bursary Scheme, Westpac Scholarship, and the Shri Shirikisun Balgovind Scholarships.

The University is encouraging students locally and across the region to take advantage of the opportunity to apply. All applications can be submitted online.

The USP Bursary Scheme is a tuition fee assistance scheme available to USP’s private students facing financial hardships. This year, successful Scheme recipients will only have to pay 50% of their tuition fees in either Semester 2 or Trimester 3.

The Scheme has been a beacon of hope for thousands of students during the pandemic as it has helped them mitigate financial gaps in paying for their University studies.

In addition to the USP Bursary Scheme, the University also facilitates and offers other financial aids, including private scholarships such as the Westpac Scholarship and the Shri Shirikisun Balgovind Scholarship.

These scholarships have their criteria based on a student’s profile. Scholarships are mostly offered based on academic merit, financial hardships, and priority research areas.

All registered and continuing students are eligible for the bursary assistance, excluding students supported by sponsors or scholarships schemes or students who qualify for the Fijian Government Tertiary Scholarship and Loans Service (TSLS)

The applicants will need to have a GPA of 2.5 or better in the most recent semester/trimester and have a combined family income of not more than FJD25,000 a year to be eligible for consideration under the bursary scheme.

USP’s Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor Education, Professor Jito Vanualailai, said the University is committed to offering scholarships and financial assistance to students to reward high academic achievers and provide opportunities for deserving students who may be facing
financial hardship.

“The scholarships on offer and the USP Bursary Scheme provides the means for many struggling students to pay for their tuition fees to continue with their studies,” he said.

“It will provide students with the financial security that will allow them the opportunity to fully dedicate themselves to their studies and to having a full USP experience without financial anxiety.”

The University Scholarships Zoom Awareness/Q&A sessions begin today and will continue for another week for 2 hours from until Thursday until the respective scholarships/bursary schemes are closed (Zoom link: https://usp-fj.zoom.us/j/86281283975)
