Vishalini Chand receives the Vice-Chancellors Top Award

Vishalini Chand from Faculty of Business and Economics (FBE) is one of three proud recipients of The Vice-Chancellor and President’s All-Rounder Gold Medal for the best combined academic performance and record service to the community.  The other two recipients are Branesh Prakash and Krisneil Prasad from the Faculty of Arts, Law and Education (FALE).
They received their Awards from the Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Pal Ahluwalia during the Medals and Prizes Ceremony held at the University of the South Pacific on 24th September.
Twenty two year-old Vishalini, originally from Wailevu in Labasa said she was overwhelmed, excited, and happy to achieve the Award. She said that her biggest motivation was her journey itself.
She attained a BCOM degree, majoring in Accounting and Economics and currently works at PwC (PricewaterhouseCoopers) as a Graduate Associate.
Vishalini said despite a lot of obstacles that came her way, she managed to successfully finish her studies through the help of family members.
“I was independent, making all the decisions on my own since my parents were in Labasa. However, I was lucky to have my elder sister with me who guided me through the USP journey and made me familiar with life at USP.” she said.
“My major challenge was to adjust to university lifestyle; the online learning platform was totally different from high school.   How an individual engages in university activities to add value to their CV is a challenge in itself. Being responsible and taking the right step in life was a tough decision to make daily.”
Vishalini said time management, planning things beforehand and always having the fighting spirit to do better and making your presence felt or to get recognition drove her to do better.
“Once you’ve set your goals, commit yourself to it until you achieve it! It’s all in your hands. Your future lies in your hand so grab a pen, write down your goals now and start working towards it,” is Vishalini’s advice.
“It takes a mile of hard work, dedication, commitment and sleepless nights to reach your goals.”
