Pacific Studies provides an opportunity for in-depth leaning about the Pacific region and her peoples. Students gain cultural and cross-cultural awareness; develop a broad knowledge of the Pacific; and acquire a distinct set of research skills critical for engagement in the islands.
UU204 Pacific Worlds is one of four generic University courses included in all USP undergraduate programmes.
The BA Major in Pacific Studies, Heritage and Arts provides courses for one major within a double major programme at the School of Pacific Arts, Communication and Education. Students enrolled in this major, may select their stream of specialist studies from Pacific Heritage Studies, Dance, Music or Visual Arts.
Students wishing to complete the course requirements of any BA programme at the University may undertake the BA Minor in Pacific Studies, Heritage and Arts. Students may choose between a Minor in Pacific Heritage Studies and Pacific Arts.
The Professional Certificate in Heritage Management is a 1-year programme of study, specifically designed to meet the needs of in-field heritage practitioners. Potential student recommendations are made by respective Culture-sector agencies within a cohort-based offering.
The Postgraduate Diploma in Pacific Studies comprises four postgraduate courses, which may be completed in 1-year (full-time study), or 2-years (part-time study). This programme is available to students who have completed an Undergraduate degree or those who meet the University’s mature-entry criteria.
Students may be admitted to the Master of Arts in Pacific Studies if they have successfully completed the Postgraduate Diploma in Pacific Studies. There are three Masters pathways in Pacific Studies. These include:
Students may be admitted to the Doctor of Philosophy in Pacific Studies Programme if they have successfully completed a Master’s degree in Pacific Studies or a related area of study.
