IEEE Fiji Subsection
The IEEE Fiji Subsection comes under New Zealand North Section under IEEE. The IEEE Fiji Subsection looks after both the bodies, which are IEEE USP Student Branch and USP Student Branch Industry Applications Society (IAS) Chapter. Membership under this section will open opportunities that will help engineers develop their professional identity in IEEE’s designated fields of interest particularly in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
IEEE USP Student Branch
The major objective of this branch is to prepare young engineers to excel and provide a solid foundation in core competencies; inculcate professional, ethical attitudes and an academic environment. It will enable students to make global connections with people who can help them along the targeted career path through IEEE’s international community of members and volunteers.
USP Student Branch Industry Applications Society (IAS) Chapter
One of the largest special interest societies within the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the IAS focuses specifically on the unique needs of industry and commerce. IAS enriches both its individual members and the industry as a whole through the sharing of specific industry-related solutions.
IEEE Student USP chapter focuses to mentor young students for international challenges.

ROBOCON
FSTE/SEP has been participating in a Robotics Competition since 2002. This competition known as Robocon which stands for “Robot Contest” is organized and sponsored by the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) which is head-quartet in Kuala-Lampur, Malaysia.
The Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) is a non-profit, non-government, professional association of broadcasting organisations, formed in 1964 to facilitate the development of broadcasting in the Asia- Pacific region and to organise co-operative activities amongst its members. It currently has over 194 members in 57 countries, reaching a potential audience of about 3 billion people.
The Robocon annual contest started in 2002 for university and is for college/polytechnic students in the Asia-Pacific region. Under a common set of rules, participants compete with their peers from other countries with handmade robots. This contest aims to create friendship among young people with similar interests, as well as help advance engineering and broadcasting technologies in the region. The contest is hosted by different broadcaster/country every year. The host for 2012 contest was Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK).
The Robocon related activities are managed by the Robotics and Automation Group (RAG) at the School of Engineering and Physics (SEP) and has been responsible for representing the USP region in the annual ROBOCON robotics competition. FijiTV is the local broadcaster and is a subscribing member of ABU . It has been our Robocon Broadcasting partner since 2002.
