PARTNERSHIPS FOR OUR BLUE PACIFIC

INTRODUCTION

In line with the Student Councils resolution in November 2020, the USP Students Association via its Secretariat Office was given a new role. This was to ‘forge partnerships with regional and international agencies in pursuit and fulfilment of the new Student Charter called PASIFIKA’. In particular, the aspiration ‘ We commit to provide opportunities for aspirational leaders to respond to unique Pacific challenges that are innovative, relevant and appropriate.’ The USP Student Council recognises that at USP, the future leaders of the region are trained, empowered and educated and that USPSA is the regions largest and most diverse student body representing unique cultural identities and communities. These are the leaders of the next generation that will take the Blue Pacific into the future.

Since then, the USP Students Association has embarked on a new journey in addition to its primary role within the University, making new friends and alliances throughout the region and on the international stage to support the regions Blue Pacific agenda. The USPSA is now woking very closely with the University, supporting USP’s dynamic role in the Pacific region underpinned by its unique cultural identities which are deeply rooted in our virtues: integrity, honesty, respect and accountability. We collectively work together with the University, donor agencies and stakeholders to provide opportunities for aspirational leaders to respond to unique Pacific challenges that are innovative, relevant and appropriate.

Current and past projects have been funded and implemented  in collaboration and coordination with both, regional and international agencies ranging from thematic areas of; Governance (good governance, open data, open governance), Anti-Corruption, Right to Information, Women’s and Disability Rights (Social and Gender Inclusion), Climate Action, COVID-19 Response, Elections and Civic Education. Since the Pacific leaders endorsement in 2021 for the development of the 2050 Blue Pacific Strategy, USPSA has worked closely with the Pacific Islands Forum in the region wide consultation for the drafting of this strategy. In particular, USPSA played a key role in bringing together regional youths and students who identified the drivers of change in the region. Today, USPSA stands behind the 2050 Strategy that reinforces commitment and working together as a collective for advancing Pacific regionalism based on the Blue Pacific Narrative.
