The People’s Alliance takes early lead in party poll as counting continues

With just over 20 per cent of the total 2071 stations counted so far, The People’s Alliance has taken the lead in the final results tally by party for the Fiji 2022 General Election, garnering 17,737 votes from 419 stations counted, according to the Fijian Elections Office Results App in its 12pm update.

FijiFirst has raked in 26.13 per cent of the votes counted, polling 9310 – majority of the votes were pulled from the Western Division. The Social Democratic Liberal Party is in third place with 2947 votes, National Federation Party with 2022 votes, Unity Fiji with 1332 votes and We Unite Fiji Party with 909 votes.

The Fiji Labour Party have polled less than 2 per cent of the total votes counted, raking in 701 votes, ALL PEOPLES PARTY with 522 votes followed by the New Generation Party at 130 votes while Rajendra Sharma and Ravinesh Reddy polled 18 and 5 votes respectively by midday.

In terms of the results by candidates from the 419 stations counted by midday today, FijiFirst Leader Voreqe Bainimarama has pulled ahead of The People’s Alliance Leader Sitiveni Rabuka with 6103 votes to 4543 votes respectively. Lynda Tabuya is in third place with 1072 votes, Siromi Turaga follows next with 1009 votes and Vatimi Rayalu with 849 votes so far.

Charan Jeath Singh and Savenaca Narube have made the top 10 so far, polling 657 and 639 votes respectively.

Following the completion of the pre-poll and postal ballot boxes today, the Fijian Elections Office invited all parties to take photographs of the pink slips to verify votes at the polling stations.

During a press briefing yesterday, Supervisor of Elections Mohammed Saneem clarified that the pink slip was a carbon copy of the original results of each booth and that “the pink slip can’t have mistakes”.

The Fijian Elections Office also announced that the election results will be updated on the FEO Results App periodically at 12pm, 5pm and 10pm today; 6am, 12pm, 5pm and 10pm tomorrow with the final result released at 6am on Sunday, December 18.
