USP Lautoka’s MBA Students Participate in the Mandatory Orientation Workshop

Over 30 students have been registered in USP Lautoka’s Master of Business Administration (MBA)’s first cohort for 2019 which commenced on 9th February.

USP’s MBA is AMBA (Association of MBA) accredited – the highest standard of achievement in postgraduate business education – and the new students are required to attend an orientation workshop which is a mandatory requirement by the Association.

Orientation for the new cohort was held at USP Lautoka in two batches on Saturday, 26th January and Saturday, 2nd February, which began with a welcome address and introduction by Campus Director Dr. Pramila Devi.

Dr. Devi said the orientation program had been facilitated to ensure students were familiarized with their study program, were able to sort the necessary administrative matters, meet USP staff and fellow MBA students.

“The Campus is committed to facilitate a suitable learning environment for you as you begin your MBA journey with us and I hope this one day program will assist both you and the university,” Dr. Devi said to the students.

Dr. Devi said USP’s MBA program provided quality learning and teaching time which focused on group work, projects and research and time management was very crucial to cope with the study.

“You will encounter both challenges and excitements during this two-year journey and with effective time management skills, the end will be rewarding for you in many ways.”

An important highlight of the workshop were speeches by recent MBA graduates of USP Lautoka who shared their student experiences and enlightened students on how they benefited from the program in both professional and personal terms.  Ravineet Sami, Executive Director Finance at the University of Fiji and Alamgeer Shah, Area Sales Manager at the British American Tobacco were guest speakers for the 1st and 2nd batch respectively.

The workshop featured presentations and trainings on key topics or areas such as Exploring On-line Databases; Conducting Effective Internet Search; Moodle; Online Enrolment and Registration; and Evaluation and Counselling.  Training on Strategies for Managing Learning and Soft Skills Development was also provided by USP’s Student Learning Specialist (SLS).

The participants were presented certificates at the end of the workshop, endorsing their eligibility to pursue the MBA program.

USP’s MBA program is offered to the university’s regional campuses by the FBE’s Graduate School of Business.
