Learn Chinese at Confucius Institute at USP

The Confucius Institute at USP is offering various levels of Chinese courses at USP in 2020 and will meet different demands from individuals, businesses, schools, government departments, and NGOs. Different levels of credit courses (CN101/CN201/CN301/CN302) and social courses are here for your selection. The credit courses will focus not only on the conversational skills of Chinese but also on linguistic structure and Chinese character writing. The social courses will improve your social communication skills in Chinese, especially in listening and speaking. It includes the pronunciation and the most practical communication tasks needed in daily life. We also provide distinctive cultural workshops for students, such as Tea Ceremony, Chinese Calligraphy, and Chinese dancing during the semester.

Expected results

  1. Students can choose to take an internationally recognized Chinese proficiency test (HSK).
  2. Excellent students will be nominated for the Chinese Bridge Competition in China.
  3. Students can get a Minor in the Chinese Language after completing all the credit courses.
  4. A certificate indicating language levels of Chinese will be issued upon your successful completion of the social class courses.
  5. Students can apply for the CI headquarters scholarship to study in China after passing the internationally recognized Chinese proficiency test (HSK).

Elective Course for USP Students
The Confucius Institute at USP is offering different levels of credit courses for your selection. The credit courses focus not only on the conversational skills in the Chinese Language; but also on the language structure and Chinese character writing.

(Commencing date and fees will be referred to the USP Calendar 2023)

*Excellent students can be nominated for the Chinese Bridge Competition in China. Winners can represent Fiji to participate in the final round and win FREE summer camp in China.
*After completing the four courses, students can obtain the Minor of Chinese Language from the CI-USP.
*Students can choose to take an internationally recognised Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK).
*Students can apply for scholarships to study in China after passing the Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK).

In-house Training Course for Hotels and Companies

We can offer in-house Chinese Language training for Fijian companies which have business connections with Chinese companies. The programme aims to introduce the learners to Chinese language, culture, and some customs, helping them solve the problems that may occur during communication. It will not only introduce learners to basic Chinese conversations and culture but also improve listening and speaking skills in the Chinese language in work scenarios. By the end of this programme, the learners will be able to:

  • Improve Chinese listening and speaking skills, especially in work scenarios.
  • Have a better understanding of Chinese culture and customs.
  • Enhance ability to provide more professional service to Chinese clients.
