Distance courses have been available in Nauru since the early 1970s, when they were facilitated through the Nauru Education Department. The USP Centre in Nauru was officially opened in October 1987 to serve a population of about 11,000. It is currently located in the Aiwo District. Nauru Campus provides tutorials and face-to-face courses for the following programmes: accounting, management, Bachelor af Education (Primary), early childhood education, English and library and informational studies.

The Campus offers face-to-face courses in pre-school teacher education, nutrition and disability studies and will offer the Community Workers Certificate in 2006. Workshops on computing and book-keeping are offered in the Campus’s Continuing Education programme.

Audio and video conferencing facilities, library and computer laboratory as well as internet and email access via USPNet are available for students.

The University of the South Pacific is a regional university serving 12 member countries: Cook Islands, Fiji Islands, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Nauru, Niue, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tokelau, Tonga, Tuvalu and Vanuatu.
