SAFETY FIRST , ALL THE TIME, EVERYTIME
Every workplace in USP including those set up by USP contractors is obligated under the USP OHS Policy to ensure that workplaces ,work equipment are maintained to comply with health and safety standards and work is carried out in a safe & competent manner.
The compliance to documented USP Safe Work Procedures ( SWOPs ) is a key element in the prevention of injuries and incidents in the university.
Each worker , contractor and student is required to understand and comply to these SWOPS when conducting work, within any university campus premises.

Workstations with personal computers and laptops and smart phones are commonly used by a large proportion of university staff .
It is important that these work tools and work areas are used appropriately in maintaining workers , normal body equilibrium to avoid musculoskeletal discomfort and diseases.

WORK AT HEIGHTS
Falls from heights is a leading cause of deaths in workplaces globally , its important to have safe systems for work when working at heights . These include using ladders , scaffolds and mobile elevated work platforms like cherry pickers and scissor lifts .

Hot Works Safety ( HWS )
The use of naked flames in and around workplaces and public areas is a fire hazard.These include using welding , grinding and cutting. There are certain areas where no hot works is allowed because residual safety risk is too high.

Controlling Hazardous Energy- Lock Out Tag Out( LOTO )
Energized mechanical equipment and plants must be switched off in order for them to be repaired , cleaned and serviced safely. Having effective Lock out tag out work safety system is essential for this to be done to prevent serious injury and death to operators.
