Write-Up Scholarship

  1. AIM
    WRITE-UP SCHOLARSHIP support students writing up their research for publications after they have submitted their Masters or PhD thesis for examination. Funding will be for a maximum duration of 3 MONTHS.
  2. ELIGIBILITY
    Applicants must

    1. have undertaken either a Masters (by research) or a PhD degree at USP.
    2. have submitted for examination through the proper channels the final version of their thesis for examination, internal and external.
    3. not be receiving any other scholarship.
    4. not be engaged in any other form of paid employment.
    5. be able to devote 40 hours per week to the writing-up of their research under the direction of their research supervisor(s)
  3. CONDITIONS OF TAKING UP THE AWARD
    Supervision
    Principal supervisor must be available to scrutinize draft manuscripts.
    Employment
    A candidate, to whom a full time award is made, will not be permitted to undertake any form of paid employment during the tenure of the award (including as part-time tutors or markers). This award cannot be paid concurrently with any other scholarship.
    Recipients of Write-Up Scholarships will be terminated immediately if they are found to be in breach of any of these conditions and will be required to pay back the previous month’s allowance.
  4. SELECTION CRITERIA
    Selection will be based on:

    • Applicants meeting the conditions of eligibility
    • Supervisor’s agreement and availability for regular meetings.
    • Demonstrated capacity to meet milestones
    • Funding available
  5. APPLICATION

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  1. Can I receive the Write-Up scholarship and other scholarships concurrently?
    No. An important condition of this scholarship is that the holder is not allowed to be in any other scholarship contract.
  2. What is the term of the Write-Up Scholarship?
    A Write-Up scholarship is for three months. Normally the publication output needs to be completed in this time.
  3. Which citizenship do I need to have to apply for Write-Up Scholarship?
    It is unlikely that students who are not citizens of USP member countries will be awarded a write-up scholarship.
  4. What benefits are attached to this scholarship?
    Recipients will receive a monthly living allowance of FJ$1095.25.
  5. Can I get a Write-Up Scholarship more than once?
    Individuals cannot receive more than one Write-Up Scholarship referring to the same degree.Do I need to be a registered student at USP to apply for a Write-Up scholarship?
  6. Recipients of Write-Up Scholarships do not have to be enrolled as students at USP because normally at the time when students submit thesis for examination they are not required to register for a new semester.
