Expertise / Activities
Besides numerous news stories, features, editorials and analysis, Dr Singh has published academic research in top-ranked peer-reviewed journals and presented papers at various international conferences on subjects ranging from the state of the media in the Pacific, media and conflict, freedom of speech, media regulation, social media and other issues pertaining to media and development. He has also edited books and journals on media and development in the Pacific.

In his latest project in 2020, Dr Singh headed  a comprehensive survey of 206 Pacific Islands journalists in nine countries, providing a much-needed update of journalists’ demographic profiles, role conceptions, ethical views and perceived influences. This research aims to address a ‘blind spot’ in global scholarship on Pacific journalists.

Biography
Dr Shailendra B Singh is a Pacific media development specialist with 30 years’ experience in journalism, media education and media research. An experienced newspaper and magazine editor, Dr Singh completed his PhD at the University of Queensland in 2015, then resumed his position as the Head of Journalism at the University of the South Pacific (USP) in Suva, Fiji.
