The JENESYS Programme

The JENESYS Programme

JENESYS: Japan East-Asia Exchange for Students and Youths, is a cultural exchange programme fully funded by the Government of Japan. The University of the South Pacific International office coordinates this programme in the Pacific for Cook Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Nauru, Niue, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu and Vanuatu.

USPI has coordinated this project from Kizuna and JENESYS 2.0 to all subsequent JENESYS programmes after.

The project provides fully funded 7-9 days study tours to Japan for University students between the ages of 18 and 34 enrolled in degree or higher level programmes. Each tour has a theme and prefecture in Japan is assigned to the specific theme. These include: Peace building, history and culture, Sports, Disaster and reconstruction, Marine resources, Japanese culture and language, trade, tourism and investment, Environment and energy, ocean resources and conservation. They experience the local Japanese lifestyle by staying with host families, engaging with peers at local high schools and universities, visit local ministries, councils and policymakers while also exploring museums, innovative infrastructure and cultural sites. An experience of a lifetime.

This is an opportunity for Pacific Island students and youths to learn more about Japan, its culture and innovation while also sharing about the Pacific way of life and deepen the connection between Pacific and Japan through people-to-people engagement. At the conclusion of the programme students can join the Japan-Pacific Alumni Association (JPAA) and engage in post promotion activities.
