One Ocean Expedition

Selected USP students will have a unique opportunity to sail, talanoa, dialogue, share experiences and learn from other students around the world for three weeks in this 98-meter-long boat called the Stratsraad Lehmkuhl.

If you think you can take part in this 3-week navigation in the South Pacific waters, to study Oceans, Climate Change, and Sustainable Development ALL EXPENSES PAID FOR, check out the criteria below and send us your application before the due date – 15.05.2022

Expected dates of Travel: 30th June – 19th July 2022

CRITERIA FOR ONE OCEAN HUB EXPEDITION

  1. Call is open to all students enrolled in all disciplines. However, candidates who are currently doing their Postgraduate Programs will be given priority.
  2. Some knowledge of the SDG through research or course work is required through a 1-page motivation pitch.
  3. Have a Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 3.0 or above.
  4. Candidates must provide two referees (1 personal and 1 academic).
  5. Student must be medically fit to travel (Note: The vessel has no disability access).
  6. Have ambassadorial qualities which signify a good knowledge of USP.
  7. Display maturity, independence, effective communication skills, problem-solving skills, critical thinking, social & cultural awareness, composure.
  8. Able to travel without restrictions regionally & internationally.
  9. Sponsored students are required to provide a travel release from their scholarship providers (after being selected through the interview).
  10. Students will be ranked after interviews, and some will be placed on a reserve list.
  11. Student must have a passport valid for at least six months.
  12. Candidates will board and disembark the boat from Suva Port – Fiji and must ensure that they are at the USP – Laucala one day before the boat departs.
  13. Decision of the selection panel is final.

What you must submit 

  1. Application form filled with your motivation pitch on why you should join the one ocean expedition.
  2. Referee x 2 (Refer criteria no 4)
  3. Valid passport (Refer criteria no 11)
  4. Temporary Clearance letter from FRCS & Immigration if you are on TELS for Fiji Students (Refer criteria no 8)
