June – a Month of Community Engagement for Labasa Campus

The USP Labasa Campus staff visited 6 communities covering a total of 22 villages in the Macuata province from 1st June to 16th June 2023. We were well received, and the villages acknowledged and thanked USP for reaching out and creating awareness to the youths and school leavers in the villages in terms of programmes offered at the university. The villagers were keen on joining USP, with some application forms received, and others provided to those that were interested.

Similarly, on Friday 16th June, Loata Niumataiwalu visited Naduri Village, the Village of the President of Fiji and the Tui Macuata which was the host for the Macuata District Women’s Meeting for a day to speak to the women, on opportunities and pathways available at USP Labasa Campus and PACTAFE Centre Labasa. Entry marks, requirements and issues allowing the women to make sound decision for their children’s’ future was shared.

The Marama Adi Nomai Katonivere was also present, and she thanked the USP Labasa campus for being present that day. USP has also been invited back to Naduri in November on the Yaubula Day and the celebration of the 2 years of the Tui Macuata’ s position as The President of Fiji.  This community engagements allows the university access to the people on the ground to be well versed with USP programme and requirements which will also pave the way for future collaborations in years to come.

The outreach team consisted of Pacific TAFE, SLS, SAS and the admin staff of USP Labasa Campus.
