USP Labasa Campus participates in International Day of Eradication of Poverty

Campus Director Dr Bogitini, led a team of staff to participate at the two day event of International Day of Eradication of Poverty at Wainikoro, Nadogo, Macuata. The IDEP is usually commemorated annually on the 17th of October but this year’s celebration hosted by Ministry of Social Welfare’s Poverty Monitoring Unit was held on the 19th and 20th of October, 2022.

In addressing the public, Northern Civil Service and community at Wainikoro Chief Guest Mrs Emi Bainimarama, Ministry of Social Welfare  Director Corporate Services shared information on initiatives government had invested in to help alleviate poverty around the country. Highlighting on poverty eradication means, Mrs Bainimarama reiterated, the importance of stakeholders working together to create opportunities to eradicate poverty and in doing so create a fair, just and equitable access for those that are poverty stricken in our nation.

Collaborating with the Northern Civil Service, USP offered advice on pathways, courses to study at USP Labasa Campus , USP Support services and more information was shared. The event gave USP an opportunity to connect and build networks with its alumni, Heads of Departments and also leverage the presence of USP in the community by offering advice, materials and consultations with farmers, youths and other community members. The Campus Director, in his stakeholders address enlightened the crowd at Wainikoro of USP’s vision, USP’s Labasa Campus programmes of study, the services offered through Labasa, and its alumni success stories. The community was encouraged that USP will continue to aspire to provide educational pursuits for their children at Nadogo, Macuata now and in future. The two day event cemented networks and USP’s continued presence in the community supported by its alumni, students and well wishes. Other programmes like oratories, booth tours and light entertainments was also provided. USP staff managed booth tours, participated as judges for school competitions and distributed USP materials at the booth.
