Career summary
Dr Abdul Hassan has a PhD (2014), Master of Arts (Land Management and Development) (2003), Graduate Certificate in Tertiary Teaching (2003) and a Post Graduate Diploma (Land Management) (1998) all from USP. Dr Hassan also has a Certificate of Registration from the Valuers Registration Board of Fiji (1987), Fellowship of the Institute of Valuation and Estate Management of Fiji (2013), Certificate of Competency in Valuation and Estate Management in Fiji (1978) and a Diploma in Tropical Agriculture from the Fiji College of Agriculture (1972). Dr Hassan is actively involved in Fiji’s real estate and property valuation profession, reflected in him being the Chairperson of the Valuers Registration Board of Fiji (since 2010), Chairperson of the Real Estate Agents Licensing Board of Fiji (since 2015) and a Board Director (Oceania Rep) of Pacific Rim Real Estate Society (since 2007).
Before becoming a full-time academic at USP, Dr Hassan has several positions at the Ministry of Lands and Mineral Resources (1973-1998), including as a Senior Valuer. During this period, he undertook a secondment to the Chief Valuers Office in the UK (1984). Dr Hassan has also been a Visiting Scholar at the National University of Singapore (Aug-Sept 2008) at the University of Sydney (Oct-Nov 2008).
Dr Hassan is the Principal of South Pacific Property Consulting Services, a property valuation firm based in Suva, Fiji. His firm regularly hosts USP LMD students seeking an industry placement in their 3rd year (LM318).
Teaching
Dr Hassan has taught numerous courses at USP, most recently Property Valuation Methodology (LM311), Land Economics (LM401), Property Investment and Development Analysis (LM402) and Special Topics in Land Management (LM420).
