Student Activities

The Discipline of Land Management and Development recognises the value of youth empowerment, networking, and engagement. Through the Student Association Services DLMD gives students an opportunity to participate in activities other than our usual academic activities. This is student organised, and provides an exciting opportunity for students to network, have fun and build on a community of learners.

Student testimonials of this group share how this opportunity has helped them move out of their comfort zones and make new friends. Students engage in planning for events, organising outreach, and support groups. The skills learnt are super fun! There is a lot of dancing, singing, planning, and networking among peers and professional.

In 2020 some of the events that took place were:

  • Educational field trips
  • Gunusede
  • Bake sales
  • Awards night

Statement from the President of Student Association (2020):

As the president of the DLMDSA 2021 I entrusted that the association helped students build relationships, connections and expand their skills set beyond their learning environment. For the past years the association has able to set up field trips, sports day and the end of the year break up party (2020) for the land management students in which the association funded its own break up party without the help from the USPSA.

Various activities are being designed for the first few weeks of semester 1 to raise funds for the associations with the main aim of brining students together, connecting them with other students such as the alumni and to help each other find their way around the university and most importantly in achieving their academic goals. These activities are also a great way for students to relax and have fun with their peers.

However, the challenges of COVID-19 has disrupt the association planning of certain activities that needs to be carried out on semester 1 2021. The best we can do in order to assist students for their learning is by creating different chat groups for student of different levels. These chat group groups are being monitored by the different level reps where discussion of all LM units are being undertaken. Despite many difficulties and issues being faced previously and till date the association still able to offer support students if the need arises.
