Diploma in Vernacular Language (Hindi)

On successful completion of this programme, graduates should be able to:

  1. Communicate orally in Hindi with confidence, making decisions about what is appropriate in different contexts;
  2. Read and write Standard Hindi in the Devanagari script with fluency;
  3. Conduct independent research into topics of importance within the field of Hindi Studies;
  4. Critically evaluate texts about topics from the field of Hindi Studies;
  5. Analyse the linguistic structure of Hindi;
  6. Analyse classical and contemporary literary texts from both Fiji and other contexts;
  7. Teach Hindi effectively, as both a vernacular and conversational subject, following sound pedagogical principles;
  8. Ground an engagement with Hindi Studies as a discipline in an understanding of how Hindi has come to be a vernacular language of Fiji.
